Leadership Team Meets with Mayor and FISD Officials
On Tuesday, May 27 WeAreFrisco.org team leaders met with newly elected Frisco Mayor, Maher Maso, FISD Superintendent, Dr. Rick Reedy and FISD Assistant Superintendent of Facilities and Finance, Richard Wilkins. Representing WeAreFisco.org were co-founders Dudley Wilson and Alvin Huerta. Also on hand was Stonebriar HOA President, Bill Osborn, Lakehill HOA President, Ed Pete, and Heritage Lakes HOA President, David Arbuckle.
Dudley Wilson opened the meeting with an overview of our organization’s philosophy on the redistricting issue and the overwhelming initial response from residents. The petition drive launch on Sunday, June 1 was announced and the group was apprised that there were already hundreds of petition signatures in hand. Bill Osborn indicated that Stonebriar would likely have 1000 signatures by the official launch date. Those in attendance acknowledged the well organized effort.
Dr. Reedy offered insight from his experience on redistricting issues during his 11 years as FISD Superintendent. FISD is no stranger to the complications created by outlying district boundaries as theirs overlaps in the cities of Plano, McKinney, and Little Elm. While the challenges faced (districts agreeing, guidelines being met, etc.) were generally discussed, Superintendent Reedy said he was there to listen and should we be successful, welcomes our arrival.
Mayor Maso has long been aware of the LISD boundary issues our neighborhoods face and, while City of Frisco Mayor’s office has little legal authority with regard to school district issues, he supports the effort and promises stay abreast of developments.
After an informal redistricting wrap up and chat with the Mayor, the team met privately to touch base on the upcoming petition launch.
In another important development, team members Wilson and Osborn are clarifying definitions and gathering appropriate statistics to see if the initiative meets the mathematical metrics involved. It’s too early to predict, but preliminary calculations look promising. Details to follow.
