2009 Spring Election Report Card

As you already know, the candidates we endorsed fared very well in the Frisco City Council elections, but not as well in the LISD Board of Trustee elections. So how did we do?

Going into this election we had three major goals:

  • Increase voter turnout to create a strong voting bloc. You brought this one home in spades. We do not have the final numbers yet, but the early voting numbers suggest ten times the turnout of previous elections! We will post the actual numbers as soon as we have them. Grade: A
  • Win the City of Frisco Council elections to generate additional support at the city level on our initiatives. You brought this one home as well. Pat Fallon personally told us: “Your guys were all over the place!” Congratulations to both Pat Fallon and Bob Allen for their resounding victories.. Grade: A+
  • Gain representation on the LISD Board of Trustees. Although Frisco residents, Kevin Gies and Christine Boudreau did not win, they made a very formidable showing and are worthy of tremendous praise. Available numbers indicate we accounted for approximately 8 to 10% of all votes cast in the election. We will post those numbers when we have them as well. Regardless of our continued lack of representation on the LISD board, our voter turnout is a number that cannot be ignored. We do have a voice and it is finally being heard! Neither incumbent (T. Ferguson & V. Gregg) generated over 50% of the vote, so their win certainly is not a voter mandate. In any other election, a runoff would have been forced as Christine Boudreau was only 4% short of victory in her race against Ms. Gregg. Grade: B-

Elected representatives understand these numbers. We achieved this significant performance despite starting late, not knowing the process, having no money (only $200 was spent and neither Frisco candidate had any money in the LISD race), and, incredibly, having to vote in 3 different places.

Overall Grade: A-

Be proud of what you accomplished this year! More effort will be required next year. We will be ready and are starting right now! We want the LISD Trustee incumbents up for re-election in 2010 (Tommy Kim, Fred Placke, and Kathy Duke) to know we do not run candidates - we endorse and support them. We will support any current, new, or returning candidate whom we determine will represent our interests properly.

We will increase the voter turnout next year and we will raise the bar. Towards that end, we now turn our attention to establishing a single polling place. Please join us in that battle!

Great job WeAreFrisco.org membership and “Thank You” to all who went way beyond the call of duty in Stonebriar Village, Lakehill, The Lakes on Legacy, and Heritage Lakes. You know who you are.

Finally, be sure to let Christine and Kevin know how proud we are of their effort and willingness to face the challenge!
